ATI Super Damper
So I was getting ready to install this damper today and read the instructions. This is a little more in depth than I thought (kind of figured you just put on and torque crank bolt but seems there is more to it). Anyone install one of these and have any recommendations?

RE: ATI Super Damper
I know to go on my 6.1 crank it had to be machined, I thought on the aftermarket cranks it was just a bolt on?

RE: ATI Super Damper
The thing that is throwing me off is they describe a press fit and specify tolerances. I put the stock damper next to the ATI on the hub end and they line up exactly the same for the serpentine belt grooves. So I am thinking I just install and torque down ensuring that the hub face mounts against the step in the crankshaft. Gonna call ATI's tech line today. This might be really simple and it is just a matter of ATI providing more info in their instructions then what is actually needed.

RE: ATI Super Damper
I haven't installed mine yet but I have read over the instruction that came with it. I ask questions about the fitment issues over on MMF 4-5 months ago. From what I understand, the only issue you should possibly have is the fit on the crank OD. You need to Mic the crank snout OD and the ID of the balancer hub bore, I think the instructions tell how tight the fit is supposed to be. If the fit is to tight you are supposed to hone the balancer hub bore to obtain the proper fitment.
I bought a install kit from Comp cams but it would not work, I had to make an extended adapter for it to work.

This is the install tool as it came from Comp Cams.

RE: ATI Super Damper
Sweet, thanks Mani.

Called ATI and just need to make sure the interference fit is around .0007

And I learned the crank bolt is not long enough to pull the damper on the crank hence the tool.

BTW, where are you guys getting the key? I was told it is 3/16".

Mani, The install tool Harbor Frieght sell's is long enuff ? Ain't that a bitch, I called Comp cams and specifically ask about if their kit came with a threaded adapter that was long enuff to reach inside the crank on a 5.7 / 6.1 gen III Hemi and they said yes. They are full of shit!

i machined my damper open by .004" so it wouldnt fight me going on.

You had to open the hub up .004 or .0004 ? I haven't checked mine yet, .004 is a bunch.

dont forget the key

and yes kenny .004" not 4 tenths of a thou....

it seems like a lot, but even with me taking off .004. i still had a tolerance fit of .005.... which is a lot.

best to measure your crank and balancer.
